Helenica
(2006)
oil on canvas with natural horse hair
180cm x 240cm
This painting is the largest and most intimidating
piece of work. The inspiration came after a considerable period
of research into the horse as a mythological symbol to ancient civilizations.
In mythology the horse was regarded as a symbol of fertility and
potency.
The intrigue behind the subject created the
motivation to paint the energy and power of an ancient god like
creature. This horse carried beliefs for the people who worshiped
the animal and was revered as a symbol of their faith.
The contradiction of weight, yet swift flight
and propulsion through the air intertwine creating an image of speed
and movement. |
